Civilians reading a proclamation to enlist in Napoleon's "Grande Armée". Georges Scott (1873-1943) was a student of Édouard Détaille and quickly specialised in Napeonintic historical and contemporary military scenes. He achieved wide fame for his depictions of French troops during the Balkan Wars and the First World War. He was also a war correspondent and illustrator for the magazine "L'Illustration" between 1892 and 1943.
