Contemp. sheep, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, speckled edges (front joint split, head sl. damaged, some rubbing to boards, corners bumped).
First edition published in the Northern Netherlands based upon the 1582 Plantin ed., but with all copperplates newly engraved. The text by François de Belleforest was revised by Petrus Montanus. Ill. with an engr. title, a short title with coat of arms of the 17 Provinces, and 92 (of 93; only missing Dunkerque-2 that is rarely present; incl. 8 pl. printed 2 by 2 on 1 leaf) maps, cityplans & views of the Dutch Republic (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Delft, The Hague, etc.), Flanders (Louvain, Lier, Malines, Ghent, Bruges, Ypres, Tienen, Tournai, ...) and Northern France (Lille, Douai, Artois, Arras, Cambrai etc.). The engr. title refers to the Twelve Years' Truce agreed in Antwerp on 9 April 1609 and symbolises the cessation of hostilities between the Habsburg rulers of Spain and the Southern Netherlands and the Dutch Republic.
