4 vol., 8vo: xix-438, 450, 446-[2 bl.], 475-[1 bl.] pp. (sm. wormtrack in blank lower margin of 3 quires of vol. I; some min. soiling).

Contemp. sheep (rubbed, corners bumped), richly gilt spines with 5 raised bands ((joints) rubbed, some sm. def. at heads & tails), red and brown leather title labels. Good set.

Extensive study on the history of monastic orders and their garments, based on the best works on the subject. Including some chapters on oriental clergy and missionaries in Tonkin, China, Japan and America. Ill. with 4 engr. front. and 440 engr. full-page plates by Bernard Picart and Adrien Schoonebeek (only missing 1 pl. in vol. III: "Ordres Abolis"). Titles in red and black.
