Born in Lunéville, Piroux (1749-1805) was an architect and lawyer in Nancy. He won a prize given by the Royal Academy for the discovery of means of preventing fires and fire propagation. Ill. (complete) with 4 technical engravings, woodcut armorial dedication head-piece. Chapters on the nature of fire, causes of fires, stoves and chimneys, potential hazards presented by floors, walls and staircases, fire-proof floors, etc. Complete with errata-leaf.
