First edition of a literary history with a focus on poetry and the educational and moral purposes it should attempt. The Catholic priest and historian Muratori (1672-1750) was librarian at the Ambrosian Library in Milan and at Modena's Ducal library. He was the discoverer of the Muratorian fragment, perhaps the earliest list of New Testament books.
