Rare first German edition transl. by Jacob Reichlinger of Augsburg of Book IV of the major Renaissance treatise on architecture by S. Serlio (1475-1554), composed of 7 books written between 1537 and 1551. Book IV was the first published in 1537 in Venice and is an explanation of the five orders of architecture of Vitruvius. Illustrated with over 100 half- or full-page in-text woodcuts; title within an elaborate ornamental border by Cornelis Bos. According to M. Vène (Bibliogr. serliana), the book was actually printed in 1543 as the dates of 1542 on title and at end of dedication are expressed in "Easter style".
