Contemp. mottled sheep, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands, red spr. edges (sl. rubbing, head missing, tail repaired, sm. lack of leather to lower cover).

Rare first edition of an essay by the Brabant historian Miraeus (1573-1640) on the origins of chivalric military orders (e.g. St. John of Jerusalem, the Teutonic Knights, the Knights Templars, etc.). Woodcut on title. Copy containing 6 blank ff. in begin. and 38 at end.
