Animated, romantic view at the edge of a river with a waterfall and a castle in the distance. Two men are fishing along the river bank. Lucas (Darmstadt 1803-1863) was a pupil of Franz Hubert Müller. He was strongly influenced by the artist brothers Carl Philip and Daniel Fohr, with whom he later travelled around Europe, studying and painting landscapes in Switzerland and Italy before returning to Germany in 1839.
