8vo: 152 ff. (sl. toned, minor spotting).
Cont. panel-stamped calf over wood, bevelled edges, panel stamps with allegorical figures and roll-stamps with biblical subjects, spine on 4 raised bands, nicely tooled metal clasps and catches, fore-edge titled (head def.). Excellent copy in almost perfect condition.
Early account of the Council of Trent. A very beautiful example of the continuation of Flemish binding styles in Germany. The clear-cut panel stamps show the 7 Artes Liberales + a woman playing the lute, with initials "A H", i.e. the Leipzig binder Ambrosius Hirsch, active 1577-1617. Ref.
