18th-c. half vellum, marbled paper boards, flat spine with red and green gilt labels, red edges. Excellent copy.
Editio princeps of "De officis" of St Ambrose (340-397), one of his major writings promulgating a lofty standard of Christian ethics. Printed in gothic type. Rubricated throughout in red and blue, with many initials extending into the inner margin; longer extensions on g3r and l1r. On a2v (and on a1r of the Gerson text) reddish-brown penwork border decoration with in the centre of the bottom margin a coat-of-arms with initials "c | d". Ref.
