Folio: [title]-283 [= 285]-[20-1 bl.] pp. (some light browning & spotting).
Old half vellum, flat gilt-orn. spine (sl. soiled), blue edges. Good copy.
Second edition (1st 1659) of the splendid description of the Low Countries, with a wealth of information (and maps) on larger and smaller towns, incl. Breda, Haarlem, Rotterdam, Brussels, Leuven, Lier, Mechelen, Brugge, Dendermonde, Geraardsbergen, Kortrijk, Gent, Oostende, Cambrai, Luxemburg, [...]. Engr. ill.: title with Neptune, dolphins and coats of arms, 12 double-page maps, 65 views and 89 city maps on 120 pl. Martin Zeiller (1589-1661) compiled similar volumes for Caspar Merian (1655-ca. 1680). Copy greatly enriched with 205 extra plates (from oblong full-page to (mostly) small, sometimes folding; very neatly mounted with a small strip on the blank margin of the original plates or on blank versos (without disrupting the original plates)) showing views and town maps of the same cities and towns, but also some battle scenes and military plans, all coming from numerous contemp. topographical works, i.a. 32 topographical plates with emblematical verses (in Latin and German) from an edition of D. Meisner's works, showing i.a. Antwerp, Mechelen, Breda, Brussels, Den Bosch, Leeuwarden, Delft, Dordrecht, Vlissingen, Utrecht, Dinant, Bruges, Dunkirk, Ghent, Ieper, Tournai, Cambrai, etc. Also a folding pl. showing the Siege of Ostend, one showing the Siege of Maastricht of 1632 and some panoramic views by Peeters & Bouttats.
