8vo: [10, incl. front.]-399-[1] pp.; 3 (on 4) pl. (fold. map missing, browned, sl. soiled).
Contemp. calf, flat spine (corners, head and tail def., rubbed).
Rare first edition by the French commercial agent D. Lamiral (1751-1800), particularly involved in the slave trade. He spent several years in Senegal and notably wrote the "Cahier de doléances" sent by the inhabitants of Saint-Louis to the Estates General in 1789. Critical of the privileges of the Company of Senegal, it seems that Lamiral also defended his own interests by proclaiming the importance of the slave trade in the country's economy. Ill. with an engr. front., two engr. headpieces and 3 full-page engr. plates.
Ref. Gay 253. - BnF (mentions 6 plates of which one map, our copy missing the map and one plate).
Prov. Albert Louis Loos (ms. entry on flyleaf).
