Etching, 25,1 x 20,4 cm (plate), thick laid paper, signed in the plate at lower left "Rembrandt f 1639".
Under passe-partout.
Rembrandt presented the Amsterdam Receiver-General, Jan Uytenbogaert, as a noble and meticulous professional, while simultaneously hinting at a fatherly relation to his young servant. An early unfinished state (with most of the background only thinly etched), of a later unidentified copy.

Joined: 1. Rembrandt Van Rijn (after) - Portrait of Jacob Haaringh. Etching and drypoint, 12 x 10,5 cm, laid paper, signed and dated in the plate "Rembrandt 1655". Later copy of the 5th and final state, with plate cut to the head and bust. Ref. Hollstein XVIII:275.5. - 2. Idem - Abraham's sacrifice. Etching and drypoint, 15,7 x 13 cm, laid paper, unsigned (sm. def. at upper right and lower left corners, old glue marks). Later reverse copy published by Basan. Ref.
