4to: portrait-[32]-306-[2] pp. (lower margins sl. dampstained).

Contemp. marbled sheep (sl. rubbed), gilt spine with 5 raised bands (sm. def. at head), red leather title label, gilt sides, red edges. Good copy.

Rare first edition of this poem by the Belgian Jesuit Le Vaillant (1667-1746), responding to the work of Louis Racine which was clearly against the Jesuits. Illustrated with front. medallion portrait of the dedicatee François-Ernest de Salm, bishop of Tournai, engr. by J. Daullé. Text within woodcut border.
