The wedding of Amor and Psyche.

Drawing, pen and black ink with grey wash, 25 x 40,5 cm, vellum paper with watermark "G. M. M.", signed or attributed in pen and brown ink at lower right corner "L. Vacca" (heavily creased, remargined, large brown dampstain at upper left, old glue marks on verso, 3 large vert. creases).

The Gods assembled on Mount Olympus, for the wedding of Amor and Psyche. Luigi Vacca (1778-1854) was an Italian painter and scenic designer, active in the Piedmont region. He was involved in the decoration of numerous palaces and churches and this drawing might also be in preparation of such a project. Doubtfully attributed to Jacques-Louis David in the lower right margin.
