4to: [47] ff. (of 48, final blank missing; some toning and marginal soiling).
Mod. calf, covers with gilt ruled border and central title on a rectangular inlaid piece, gilt spine with 5 raised bands, a.e.g. (recased?, joints splitting, tail def.), in slipcase. Good copy.
Rare first edition of an adaptation of the Passion narrative for a lay audience combining hymn and Bible verses, with 40 woodcut illustrations by Virgil Solis (and Johann Nell) after Dürer's Little Woodcut Passion. Though his "Passional" was presumably influenced by Luther’s, the theologian and controversialist Franck (1543-84) had converted to Catholicism in 1568. Title within elaborate woodcut border. Printed in gothic type.
