Description du lot
2 engr., 62,5 x 104 cm, borders coloured, mounted on cloth with bords in pink tabby.
Original cardboard box with red paper (upper part torn off).
Large map dedicated to the first Belgian king Leopold I, engraved by F.-J. Desmares. These map sheets partly result from the failed 1834 mapping project by the "Dépot de la Guerre". P. Gérard (1796-1866), cadastral inspector of Eastern Flanders, who had previously worked with J.E. Van Gorkum and was asked to prepare a mapping proposal for Belgium, eventually provided Vandermaelen with his survey results. This finely executed map includes the network of triangles used for the land survey.
