4to: [4]-xxxii-638-[2] pp. (some browning, tiny hole in pl. 3, pl. 15 heavily browned).

Contemp. calf (corners def., scratches on covers, some sm. parts of leather lacking), gilt orn. spine on 5 raised bands (head and tail def., joints starting to split), red edges, marbled endpapers.

Sixth edition (first 1741) of this reference work on hippology by "le capitaine des haras de France" Garsault (1693-1778), dedicated to Jean-Frédéric Phélypeaux, 1st Count of Maurepas. Ill. with 49 engr. pl. (of which some fold.) after drawings by the author: 29 (numbered I-XXIX) concerning horses (anatomy, horse bits, groom/stable boy and farrier's instruments, etc.) and 20 (numbered 1-20) concerning medicinal plants servant à soigner les cheveaux.
