Large folio: [4]-88-[2] pp.; 51 pl. (foxing, pale dampstain at the bottom, pl. 44 torn in half, margin of p. 73 torn, mold to several pl.).
Cont. half red morocco, marbled paper covers, gilt orn. flat spine (spine restored, a few scratches).
First edition illustrated with a chromolithographic portrait of St Isaac, a dedication ruled with a large chromolithographed border, 49 plates (plans and views) of which some tinted and 5 in colour, 11 lithogr. endpieces and some ills in the text. The French architect Ricard de Montferrand (1786-1858) constructed the Saint Isaac's Cathedral and is also known for the Alexander Column in Saint-Petersburg.
