17th-c. vellum, flat spine with leather label (some pp. cut short).
Extr. rare reunion of the first editions of the 5 books dealing with military matters and poliorcetics. A. Centorio (15..-15..), born in Rome or Milan, was the secretary of Giovanni Battista Castaldo (1493-1562), general and count of Piadena and Cassano. Castaldo fought against the French at the Battle of Pavia (1525) and against the Turks at the siege of Vienna (1529). Neat typography with text decorated with ornamental initials, headpieces and small endpieces. Large Giolito's mark on each title and at the end of each part. Ref.
