2 parts in 1 vol., folio: [24]-586-[2 bl.] pp., 788-[12] pp. (errors in pagination in part 2, browning, min. marg. dampstaining, some sm. marg. tears).
Cont. calf, gilt ruled border and central gilt ornament on covers, gilt spine on 6 raised bands, red leather title label (rubbed, corners bumped, head & tail def. & dam. due to worming, front cover almost loose, clasps and catches gone). Apart from the binding, a good copy.
Third edition (1st. 1611) of this extensive historical work by G. Chappuys (1546-1613), the successor of François de Belleforest as historiographer of France. Engr. ill.: large printer's mark on title and verso of privilege, 2 full-page pls depicting the sovereigns of both sides (Charles V, Philips II, Albert & Isabella, Alexander Farnese, François I, Princes d'Orange William and Maurice, Robert Dudley,...) and 16 folding plates showing land and naval battles, fortifications and sieges (i.a. Ostend, Antwerp, Cambrai, Calais, Breda, Arras, Bergen op Zoom, Den Bosch, Maastricht,...), incl. 1 pl. depicting all the cities taken by the Marquis de Spinola. Title in red and black. Ref.
