First vol. of the first and only edition of an important work on the history and political constitution of the Dutch Republic. Ill. with an engr. front., engr. headpieces and 8 fold. engr. pl. by Romeyn de Hooghe. A very interesting politico-historical work giving historical data and ample references to other sources. Part two of particular interest because of chapters dealing with the Dutch East India Company, the Dutch West India Company, the Society of Suriname, the Northern Company, the trade on the Levant and the herring fishery.
