Description du lot
4to: [4]-60 pp.; 55 pl. (some foxing).
Contemp. quarter calf over marbled boards, gilt-orn. flat spine (spine rebacked).
2nd ed. (1st 1808, with only 45 pl.) of this rare, illustrated description of the mammals in the "Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle" in Paris. The first unnumbered engr. is a fine and artistically arranged comparative overview of the principal mammalian groups. It is not clear which Huet is meant by "Huet" on the title; it could be either Nicolas le jeune or his father, Jean-Baptiste le vieux. According to Nissen, Le Blanc and Nagler Künstlerlexikon the work is by Nicolas Huet.
