Description du lot
2 parts in 1 vol., folio: [8]-306, [6]-352 pp.; 41 pl. (browning, some spotting, 1 pl. with tear).
Contemp. mottled calf, covers with gilt princely crowned cypher "VE", gilt orn. spine with raised bands and label, a.e.g. (sl. rubbed).
First edition of this extensive historical treatise on Uppland by the national antiquarian Johan Peringskjöld (1654-1720), still of lasting value as many of the sights depicted have now disappeared (incl. a large number of rune stones, but also the inventory of Uppsala Cathedral, which was destroyed by fire in 1702). The first part, describing Vaksala and Gamla Uppsala with its ancient monuments, has parallel text in Swedish and Latin, while the second, "Monumenta Ullerakeriensa", which deals mainly with Uppsala and its cathedral, is in Swedish only - despite the title. Most of the fine plates are engraved by Truls Arwidsson. Engr. ill.: 1 front., 40 pl. (some folding), 2 in-text, 2 vignettes on titles; num. full-page or in-text woodcuts.
Prov. Victor Emmanuel I of Sardinia (?) (supralibros).
