Very rare unillustrated 3rd ed (1st 1578) of the English translation by Henry Lyte (1529-1607) of the French version (by C. Clusius) of Dodoens’ celebrated herbal. The translation, dedicated to Elizabeth I, is also of American interest. The flyleaves (4 partial ff.) consist of waste leaves of an edition in Law French of the law reports for Michaelmas and Easter terms in the 12th year (= 1497) of the reign of Henry VII (1457-1509). They probably derive from the collective volume of 18 year books of Henry VII published by R. Tottell in 1580 (STC 9925 = Beale, Early Engl. law bks, R413).
