4to; 52 pl. protected by tissue guards (without the vol. of text in-12°, foxing, numerous on some plates, a few pl. detached).
Publisher's binding: black cloth, boards decorated with blind frames and angular fleurons, upper board with gilt title, flat spine with blind roll-stamps and gilt title (upper joint partly split).
First issue complete of the 52 hand-coloured lithographed plates, partly heightened with gum arabic. Without the vol. of text published in 1847. The British naturalist Goss (1810-1888) sailed to Jamaica in 1844 where he worked as professional collector for the dealer Hugh Cuming. He studied for 18 months the birds of the island receiving the name of "father of Jamaican ornithology". Ref. Nissen, IVB, 367.- Sabin 28060.- Not in Anker.
