Description du lot

Various sizes, in English, some with envelope pres. and post stamps.

Pleasant and complicit correspondence between the American painter Ernest Walters (1927-2004) and Luc Canon. At first it's quite formal ("Dear Luc Canon", 09/06/1968), then it becomes more casual, Walters finding funny nicknames for his correspondent ("Hey Lucamipalbaby", "Hello Lucapal" 11/02/1972). Walters writes about his works, his next exhibitions in Brussels, Wiesbaden, Washington, even if he considers that "the studio is the only place for an artist to be" (07/12/1968) and also that "sometimes it would be good for artists to paint rather than shake hands at a vernissage" (23/09/1970). He proposes to Canon to stay in his apartment and visit with him some cities like Baltimore, Washington and Onguquit ("artists colonies") during his trip in the USA in 1968. Then he comes to Brussels and teases Canon about the girlfriends he invites in his country house while he is back in America. He also mentions the implication of one of Canon's friends in the Sharon Tate murders of 1969, recommends some artists as the Belgians André Eijberg, Pol Mara and Renaat Ivens, or the American George (Rose?). He also gives his opinion about the Austrian architect Hundertwasser and asks if he could meet the Indian sculptor Amarnath Sehgal in Brussels. In July 1971, to announce the birth of his third daughter, he sends a signed card with an original engraving. From 1973 to 1976 he does the same with greeting cards.
