Albumen print, 18,9 x 23,7 cm, mounted on cardboard, with pasted note in pencil on verso, pencil legend on verso.
View of the frozen river Scheldt. A group of people standing on the ice. In the background some houses and factories. The contemporary pencil note at the back mentions "Arthur Bosschaert de Bouwel y est photographié par Mr Fritz Mayer". Amateur photographer, Belgian art collector and art historian Fritz Mayer van den Bergh (1858-1901) was the founder of the actual Mayer van den Bergh Museum in Antwerp. Arthur Bosschaert de Bouwel (1857-1896) was a Belgian politician. Both were born and active in Antwerp.
