Contemp. overl. vellum, flat spine titled in ink. Good copy.

First edition, second issue, with new prelims and additional gatherings (a-g, 2A-C, 2a-b). One of the most popular emblem books (and proverb collection) of J. Cats (1577-1660). Ill. (complete) with an engr. title and 127 engr. circular emblems, many with very sharp impressions of the pl. Loosely inserted an 18th-c. portrait of Cats.
