Folio: [12]-510-[46] pp. (toned, (locally serious) spotting, sm. wormtrack in title, first and last few ff., +/- 5 cm tear in pl. p. 13, sm. corner piece torn pp. 123 & 431).
Old vellum, spine on 3 raised bands titled in ink (corners bumped, some worming, some sm. repairs, joints splitting). Good copy.
The fine and very rare Venetian edition - the 4th - of one of the most important anatomical works, by A. Vesalius (1514-1564). Illustrated with slightly reduced copies of those found in earlier editions. The illustrations are sometimes attributed to (the workshop of) Titian. Large woodcut mark on titlepage and numerous woodcut anatomical illustrations in the text, including the famous "muscle man". Ref. B.B.
