3 vol., sm. folio: engr. title-[2] pp.; 245 pl., engr. title-[2] pp.; 240 pl., 238 pl. + 7 loose pl. (titles, list of plates in vol. 1 and 3 and engr. title in vol. 3 missing, some mounted on guards or laid down on paper, some spots, some sm. stains, few tears strengthened, few corners repaired, few marg. wormtracks, few folds, ms. numbers in pencil).
Mod. marbled sheep, gilt-ruled covers, gilt-orn spine with raised bands and title labels, red edges (sm. defects). Mostly good impressions with wide margins.
First collected edition of the etchings by Jean Lepautre (1618-1682), famous Parisian architect, draughtsman, printmaker, and one of the most inventive and prolific artists in the field of architectural ornamentation of the Grand Siècle. The designs incl. gateways, doors, chimneys, wall and ceiling decorations, alcoves, cabinets, altars, baptismal fonts, tabernacles, pulpits, historic scenes, etc. Many plates still have the original address of Pierre Mariette. Our copy incl. 2 engr. titles and 730 plates: 604 full-page, 80 double-page, 38 leaves with 2 etchings each, 1 leaf with 4 etchings, and 7 loose etchings.
