Lot description
Folio: engr. title-135 pl. (2 holes in most pl., few spots, title creased).
Contemp. calf, gilt-ruled covers, gilt-orn. spine with raised bands and title label (very used, traces of old restoration, endpapers dampstained).
Large, nearly complete album with mostly grotesque ornament designs by various printmakers after Jean Berain (1640-1711), who as an artist of the "Menus-Plaisirs du Roi" and responsible for the French court spectacles. Incl. 135 wall designs, candelabras, commodes, chimney pieces, gardens, mausoleums, etc. Our album incl. many large and a few double-page pl. from series lettered A (5), B (6), C (5), D (5), E (5), F (5), G (5), H (5), I (5), L (7), O (5), P (5), X (5), + (5), and others without letter (62).
