Lot description

4to: 300-[3-1 bl.] pp. (title sl. soiled, sm. hole in ff. E1-2 just reaching into pl., tear clumsily repaired at f. Pp3, last f. Pp4 underlaid).

Expertly rebound in modern leather with the original covers laid down, contemp. calf covers with gilt IHS-mark within gilt-ruled border (sl. soiled), spine with 4 raised bands and sm. blind-stamped coats of arms, mod. endpapers and front flyleaf. Good copy.

First edition of this religious work by the Jesuit author Binet (1569-1639). It describes the church of St Lambert Abbey at Liessies with its saints, i.a. Augustinus, Benedictus, Bernardus, Franciscus, Dominicus, Ignatius, etc., mostly founders of religious orders. Engr. ill.: title depicting the church at Liessies and 39 engr. portraits of saints by Corn. & Theod. Galle.
