Contemp. calf with sm. corners, paper on boards, blind & gilt orn. flat spines with black leather labels (sl. rubbed, front joint of vol. 10 splitting).

First French edition by Léopold Leclanché, commented by him and Jeanron. The biographies concern mainly Italian painters, sculptors and architects. Complete with the 121 portraits and enriched with a second portrait of Pietro della Francesca in vol. II. Identical title vignettes.
