2 (of 4) parts, in 1 vol., 8vo: iv-30 pp., 25 pls. + [25] lvs; 12 pp.; 25 pls. + [25] lvs.

Contemp. red morocco, gilt fillet on boards, gilt-decorated spine with raised bands, gilt fillet on sides and inner gilt roll-stamp, a.e.g. (very slightly worn).

First edition of the 2 first parts ill. with 50 etchings of Scottish castles, manors and abbeys facing a brief description of the subject. The work was intended as a supplement for travellers to Pennant’s "Tour in Scotland" and the two last parts were published in 1793. The Scottish Adam Mansfeldt de Cardonnel-Lawson (1746-1820), born Adam Cardonnel, was a surgeon, then an antiquarian and later became sheriff of Northumberland, when he left Scotland. Prov.
