3 vol., 12mo: [4]-xiii-[11]-428-[1], [16]-262, [20]-320 pp.; 30 pl. (part. sl. browned, some sl. foxing, title of vol. I cut short, sl. marg. damp stains in vol. I and II, tear without lack in p. 73 of vol. III).
Contemp. mottled sheep, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, red spr. edges (occ. sl. traces of use).
Second edition of the French translation by J. Bertrand (1st 1741) of "Caput Bonae Spei hodiernum; das ist vollständige Beschreibung [...]" (1st Nuremberg, 1719), a detailed travel account of the Cape of Good Hope by the German traveller and naturalist P. Kolb (1675-1726), who lived and worked at the Cape from 1705 till 1713. With descriptions on the Cape's geography, climate, Hottentot customs (religion, education) based on his experience. Illustrated with 5 folding maps (complete i.a. "Caarte van de Oost-kust van Africa, van Mosambique tot digt aan Kaap de Goede Hoop", "Caarte van de Colonie van de Kaap") and 25 plates (incl. 1 folding), some signed S. Fokke, depicting fauna (zebra, elephant, tiger, monkeys) and some figures or scenes of the life of the Hottentots.
