Folio: [2 (of 4)]-373 [= 371]-[16] ff. (2 ff. with dedication to Elizabeth I of England, and final bl. missing; bl. Ssss6 present; toned, some spotting, bottom edge dampstained, bl. bottom part of title cut off and underlaid, part. repaired tears in bl. inner title margin and bl. part of title).
Old vellum-covered boards, spine with raised bands and morocco label. Good copy.
Collection of biographies of famous Greek and Roman figures. Plutarch was not aiming at providing a historical account of these famous individuals but rather seeking to describe the type of person they were and how they lived. He focuses on Alexander the Great, Romulus and Remus, Demosthenes, Cicero, Brutus, Julius Caesar, etc. Large woodcut mark on title and part-title. General title printed in red and black.
