Lot description
Engr., 43,6 x 51,8 cm, hand-coloured (very light toning along central fold, sm. hole in central fold restored, few tiny spots, clear brown stain in upper left bl. margin).
Underlaid.
Striking map with the orbits of Venus and Mercury, as seen from the earth. At the top, 4 putti holding the title cartouche in 2 parts. At the bottom, 2 smaller representations of the orbits, each with an allegorical female figure. First published in Cellarius' "Atlas Coelestis seu Harmonia Macrocosmica [...]" in 1660, considered as one of the most beautiful celestial atlases. Engr. by Johannes van Loon. Verso blank.
