Augmented ed. of this detailed account of the first French embassy to Siam by Abbé de Choisy (1644-1711). In the spring of 1685, de Choisy embarked with the Embassy dispatched by Louis XIV to Siam. This expedition aimed to convert King Naraï to Christianity and obtain some commercial privileges. Throughout the journey, the Abbot of Choisy keeps a diary in which he recounts, in an inimitable style, the adventures of the journey, his marvel at the exotic landscapes as well as the splendor of the Siamese court.
