Cont. blind-stamped calf over wood, bevelled edges, covers with biblical portraits (i.a. King David) and roll-stamps, in slipcase (front cover and flylvs loose, clasps and catches gone). Good copy.

First edition (publ. in 8vo and in folio) of one of the oldest and best documented histories of the Reformation in Europe, by the Luxemburg historian Sleidanus (1506-1556). Printed in italics. Ref. VD-16 S-6670. - VdVekene (Sleidan) E/a 001. - Not in Adams, BnF, STC German (BL). Prov. Some old reader’s marks and notes. - Old acquisition note on title. - "I L M" and date "1556" (blind-stamped initials on front cover). - 19th-c. ownership entry on front flyleaf. - Francis Law Latham (1837-1923), English barrister and poet (armorial bookplate).
