Mod. cardboard, marbled paper, flat spine. Wide-margined copy.
Third and last part of the rare first edition of the Dutch translation (1st Paris 1676-79), trsl. by J.H. Glazemaker, of this famous travel account by the French pioneer J.B. Tavernier (1605-1689). Between 1643 and 1682, Tavernier travelled 6 times to the Middle and Far East. His 7th expedition, to Russia, was his final and fatal one. These two parts describe India and Japan. Ill. with one double-page map of Japan, one fold. map of Tonkin and 10 engr. pl. of which some double page; 14 engr. pl. (some fold.) in the last part "Munt van Arabiën". In Gothic type.
