4to: [284] ff. (occ. spotting or soiling, some marg. dampstaining, sm. marg. wormtrack in outer corner of quire O).

Mod. leather, blind-ruled covers, titled spine with raised bands.

Very rare original edition of the first great Dutch dictionary, containing some 40.000 entries. The printing took 6 years, from 1567 to 1573, since it was continually interrupted by the printing of the Polyglot Bible. According to Voet, Plantin started working on a list of words upon his arrival in Antwerp; the dictionary was compiled by A. Madoets, Kiliaan and others. Woodcut mark on title and printer's mark on last p. Printed in Gothic (Dutch), roman (French) and italics (Latin) type.
