Lot description

3 parts in 2 vol., folio: [6]-267, [4]-180 (= 182), [4]-113-[51] pp.; 186 pl. (normal toning, some minor light spotting or dampstaining).

Contemp. calf, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands & red leather title labels, red edges (corners bumped, sl. rubbed, some tiny scratches, 1 head sl. def.). Nice large paper copy.

Only Dutch edition of the "Flandria Illustrata" (reissue of the ed. The Hague, C. van Lom, 1732) by Sanderus (1586-1664). This work contains descriptions of the county of Flanders, the history of the Dukes of Flanders, and the cities of Ghent, Bruges and Ypres. Engr. ill. (some by J. Harrewijn): title-vign. by D. Coster, 16 (7, 5, 4) endpieces, 50 full-page portraits, 18 maps (9, 7, 2, i.a. "Nova Antiquae Flandriae", Ghent, Bruges, Ypres, "Castellaniae Corturiacensis", "Cassel Ambacht" etc.), 3 ill. in-text and 118 plates (40, 60, 18), incl. double-paged, depicting views, bird's-eye views and buildings of Ghent, Bruges, Ypres, Dendermonde, Cassel, Gravelines, St. Winox Bergen, Veurne, Menen, etc. Titles in red & black.
