Lot description
87 silver prints, b/w, diff. sizes, stuck by corners, no legends.
Kept in an obl. 4to-size leather album (sides shaved).
Album composed by M.A. Bemelmans after a visit to the "Compagnie Sucrière Congolaise" at Moerbeke-Kwilu. The company was founded in 1925 in Moerbeke (now Kwilu-Ngongo) in the Belgian Congo as a subsidiary of the Belgian company Moerbeke and referring to the sugar town in Flanders (Moerbeke-Waas). The photos show a sports game event with indigenous young boys and men as competitors: young boys in white uniforms holding wooden arms in a parade, tug of war games, a sack race, high jump, pillow fight, hurdling, relay race, a show with masked men, a flag dance, etc. At the end some group pictures of the colonials while making music and partying.
