Lot description
Engraving, 28,2 x 21 cm, laid paper with watermark (eagle), signed in the plate at bottom left: "J. Saenredam sculp." and L-monogram (heavily stained, trimmed to platemark, sl. toned, numbered 29 in pen in lower right corner).
Stuck by upper corners under passe-partout.
Jaël hammering a peg into the head of Sisera. After a drawing by Lucas van Leyden from 1517. The engraving is a counterpiece to the print of Judith and Holofernes by Saenredam. 2nd state with signature and text and before later addresses.
