Mod. vellum-covered boards, decorative endpapers (sl. warping). Good copy.
Rare complete copy of this account by the last colonial Dutch governor of Formosa (Taiwan), the Swedish nobleman Coyett (1615-1687). Ill. with an engr. front. and 7 full-page pl. (incl. 1 folding and 1 with 2 scenes). “The island Formosa was in 1624 seized by the Dutch. It was conquered by a Chinese pirate who said he would liberate the Chinese from the Manchu invasion against the Ming dynasty. He never did, and in 1682 a descendant made a deal with the Manchu whereby the Peking government took over the island” (H. Reichert). Printed in gothic type. Ref.
