Lot description
Bifolium (ca. 16 x 20,5 cm): 1 p. (+ 3 blank pp.), in English, on stationery paper with printed address "Townshend House, North Gate, Regents Park N.W.".
Kept in folder titled "Autographensammlung von Amy Twiss". In very good condition.
"Herewith I send you a portrait to remind you of my existence [...] and the good news that my wife’s health is improving although [...]". The Victorian painter of Dutch origin Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912) settled in England in 1870. His friend and admirer Georg Ebers (1837-1898) was a German Egyptologist, Graecophile and novelist, as well as the author of one of the first monographs on Alma-Tadema (1886).
