Early monograph on the history of law, compiled by G.C. Gebauer (Breslau 1690-1773), law professor at Leipzig and Göttingen. Ill. with 1 folding engr. of a page of the Florentine law manuscript. It deals with the Dutch law historian Hendrik Brenkman(n) or Brinkman (1681-1736) and his works on the textual history of the Corpus Iuris Civilis (esp. the old Florentine manuscript), and on the support given by the British diplomat Henry Newton (1651-1715) at the Tuscan court.
