Lot description
Woodcut, 21,5 x 14 cm, vellum, 29 x 19 cm, signed in plate with monogram "IK" in lower right corner (outer margins sl. soiled).
Depiction of a "landsknecht" waving the Leuven banner, by the Swiss painter and printmaker J. Kallenberg (Bern 1500-1565 ?). On verso a second similar woodcut "Erdfurt", also monogrammed "IK". From a very rare copy printed on vellum of J. Köbel's "Wapen. Des heyligen Römischen Reichs Teutscher Nation [...]" (Frankfurt, C. Jacob, 1545). Woodcuts with the monogram "IK" previously attributed to J. Köbel (i.a. by Nagler), are now attributed to J. Kallenberg.
