Lot description
16mo (10,5 x 7,5 cm): 40 ff., 27 ll., on vellum, in Latin, written in a red and brown Gothic hand, writing area: 6,5 x 5 cm (some soiling, f. [38v] sl. used).
White pigskin binding signed by [Charles] De Samblanx (dated 1914), with Gothic-like pattern: covers with flower stamps within rectangular frames, on front cover a title and on lower cover the names of the binder and the owner. Slipcase.
Charming manuscript containing parts of the "pars aestivalis" and the "pars automnali" of the breviary, beginning with a homily of Saint Gregory the Great.
Decoration: fully illuminated alternating blue and red initials, pen-flourished initials, capitals touched in red, paragraph marks in blue.
Prov. Johannes de Renchale (drawn and hand-coloured coat of arms). - François ("Francis") Jean Marie baron Houtart, Chamberlain to Pope Pius X (1882-1965) (inscription on lower cover, bookpl.: crown with the motto "deo juvante").
